Kris Moutinho: A Zealous Zumbi’s Tale

Kris Moutinho didn’t have much planned to do on July 10th other than start the newest season of Seven Deadly Sins. But, one phone call would change all that. With UFC 264’s hottest prospect, “Suga” Sean O’Malley, in need of an opponent, Kris Moutinho was given the nod ahead of several UFC stars for a chance to spoil and add an inconvenient stop to the hype train of the cannabis-loving connoisseur.

A humble kid from the New England region, Kris Moutinho doesn’t chase for the spotlight. He even admits to being an introvert who would rather keep to himself. But don’t let that fool you one bit. The Portuguese-American UFC debutante is dedicated to the craft of MMA and will never back down from a challenge. 11 days’ notice or 11 hours notice, Moutinho would not let anything put him down for the count.

Having just quit working 40+ hours at his old job, he could commit fully to MMA training. With access to training partners from the new rising powerhouse camp, The New England Cartel, Kris Moutinho would be sharpening his skill with some elite, talented fighters. Calvin Kattar and Rob Font were just the latest from the darkhorse camp to taste the UFC spotlight.

Kris Moutinho added his name next to Calvin and Rob after his “Zumbi” (Portuguese for zombie) like performance at UFC 264. He drew the ever-similar comparison to the UFC octagon-famous “Korean Zombie” for showcasing the granite chin and an ironclad will to not go down. Fighting on the main card where Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor settled the trilogy didn’t hurt Moutinho’s stock either.

With that said, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Kris “Zumbi” Moutinho and discussing the whole UFC 264 experience, the aftermath, and what he usually does when he’s not trying to showcase his granite chin and iron will! Check out the interview down below!
