2020 Fighter Path Annual Awards: Comeback of the Year

Image

Winner: Chase Hooper (UFC)

The comeback of the year could have gone to several of the nominees mentioned below. Chase Hooper is the most deserving given how frequently he was written off throughout the fight. Barrett had been dominating the fight on the feet. Despite the strikes being relatively even throughout, every shot Barrett landed seemed to have twice the impact.

Throughout the broadcast, the commentators were suggesting the 21-year-old may need to return to the regional circuit to gain experience. On social media, fans were saying much of the same. With only two-minutes remaining in the fight Hooper landed a heel hook which ultimately forced Barrett to tap.

One of the youngest fighters on the roster obviously has so much development left in his future. It will be interesting to see what sort of approach the UFC takes to ensure he has a bright long-lasting future within the organization.

Mallory Martin (UFC)
